Sermon Series February 18 - March 3

Well Rested

It's taken me a long time to learn that I need to stop. Not just for a vacation, but every week. I'm learning the joy of this gift called Sabbath. Since about October I've been taking a day every week to simply delight in the gift of this life. My sabbath days of rest might look different each week, but they are usually slow, playful, prayerful, and, frankly, a bit sacred. It's been a long journey for me to learn to trust God in this way, but each day I stop to enjoy, is a day I come to see how God is at work in me, and around me. I'm less frustrated at myself and others because I see how God works out his love in me and around me. Together we're learning about sabbath rest as a community, too. I am hopeful you will take the gift of rest and trust and try it on in your life.

Stop, God is Here!

Our strongest desire is not our deepest desire. We deeply long for a life of rest and peace, but our stronger desires for pleasure and diversion override. Soon we find that we are not satisfied. We are not fulfilled. We have been following our strongest, not our deepest desires.

We crave deeply water, saltwater does not satisfy.

Delight in Sabbath

Delight is a sign of trust. When we trust God, we can delight in him. We can enjoy the world as he does, saying, “this is good!”

We need to cultivate this beauty and delight in our lives.

Sabbath for Community

We’re in good company when we rest in God’s care. We don’t take a sabbath because we need to prove anything to God, we take a sabbath rest because God wants to reveal his care for us.
