Running in the Dark
Go Deeper: Resources
Hide & Seek - Emmett is a hide-and-seek master. He has an instinct for finding the very best hiding spots and can stay hidden from his friends for hours. But as he waits to be found, all by himself in the dark, he wonders—is this really a game he wants to play?
Khata / Sin - Understand the biblical definition of sin. Watch a study of the original words for sin along with examples from the Bible that teach the meaning of the concept.
The Return of the Prodigal Son - The challenge to love as God loves, and to be loved as God’s beloved, will be seen as the ultimate revelation of the parable known to Christians throughout time, and is here represented with a vigor and power fresh for our times.
Sin is Behovely - A thoughtful article by Eric Dorman
This sermon series explores and unpacks the scripture’s vision of darkness. Often understood as sin, injustice, hypocrisy, and selfishness that lead to shame, ennui, fear, and broken community. Jesus is not afraid of the darkness and neither are his friends. How do we face a dark world, sin around us, and in us? This is a freedom message of hope for a world looking for light, and Jesus’ work to fill the darkness with his love. It just takes a flickering flame to chase away the darkness.

Hide and Seek
Jesus is inviting us to move from hide and seek, to Sardines. From running in the dark, to being together with him, and each other.
Together: Faith isn’t a solo sport. We find each other in our hiding and side beside each other.
God’s Work: It’s God who seeks you. Relentlessly. He calls your name. Your shame is not too much for him.
Come out come out wherever you are: He’s got you covered.
The Cross
The story of sin becomes a story of love at the cross of Jesus. Of God who took your sin on himself, and the punishment on himself. On his own body, not yours. So that you might live. Our goal is less about figuring out how bad vaping or bicycles is, it’s about moving our lives into the light of Jesus.
Free from crookedness, you can stand up straight, he carries your cross.
Free from dead ends, follow him, he knows the way. Free from betrayal, he is trustworthy to you, even to death.
Palm Sunday
All those who run, in whatever way they do, they are met by a saviour who comes to them. Like a humble king on a donkey, he draws close. Even in our false praise, and easily shifting allegiances, Jesus comes to us.
We run in the dark, and the light of the world moves closer. Friends, may we capture the power of this message deep within us. In our running, we join with every person on that Easter Weekend.
Jesus saw it all, and meets us all, in our sin.
