Sermon Series December 22 - December 24

Advent Conspiracy

We Worship Fully because Christmas is about Jesus. If we forget this foundational truth, everything else falls apart. Let our actions and our words come from a place of worship.

We Spend Less because we know mindless consumption is not the way to celebrate our Savior. By spending a little less on ourselves we are able to joyfully give to others in need.

We Give More of ourselves because this is the way of Jesus. God gave us his Son and now it is our turn to reflect that same selflessness to the world. We share our time, talents, and presence with the people we love.

We Love All because we have been loved first. We believe that the poor and hurting of our world can be reached by God through the way we choose to celebrate Christmas.

As the Church, we are telling the story of Jesus to the watching world. Join us this advent season.

Advent Conspiracy

What does it mean for us to turn to God who is conspiring to set things right? It may mean we need to stand in a posture that allows the Advent Conspiracy to unfold before us. To allow the Prince of Peace to rule and reign in us, and among us.

To help guide us through this conspiracy, here are the four Advent Conspiracy steps we’ll follow:

Worship Fully, Spend Less, Give More, Love All.

Worship Fully

The Christmas story is marinated in worship. It is a story of people turning their absolute focus to God. The coming of Jesus, this long promised and long awaited saviour, Jesus, God come to us, is a story of worship. Each worshipping person in this story is being freed, restored, and put together because the one the worship is their very life. Once you see it, it’s hard to un-see it.

Spend Less / Kids Christmas Pageant

The story of Christmas is a story of less and much much more. The start of the New Testament, of the Gospel of Jesus, of our whole faith is about putting something aside so that we can participate in what’s most vital, important, and life giving.

This less is more, humble and small story was long predicted.

Give More

I think God is conspiring with us. He slides us a life to live and in hushed tones tells us to go and give it away. He fills our hands with stuff, and our day with hours, and points to our neighbours and community. Then we get to give it away. His gift, given by us. We’re not generous, he is. The secret conspiracy is this: we don’t lose out.

Love All / Christmas Eve Candle Light Service

Life in Jesus means that you can join in what Jesus is doing. The conspiracy of love for you, is now our shared conspiring to love others. Jesus came because God’s plan is to give life to everything that was created. He would do this, though Jesus, in you. This giving is like light in the darkness. That’s what this gift feels like. A spark, warmth, brightness. It feels like friends, hope, welcome, and peace. It looks like a future, joy, and begins to turn into a love. First a sense that you are loved by God. You are never unloved. You are embraced, accommodated for, seen, and delighted in.
