Sermon Series January 5th to 19th

A City on a Hill

Jesus said, “you are the light of the world - like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.” Imagine a traveller finally coming over a rise to see their destination, a glowing city, a safe harbour, and a place to find rest. Jesus’s friends are not just invited to be this - they already are. We will be exploring how God lights up our lives and our church community to be a light. Jesus is lighting up our way.

Go Deeper: Resources

Our intention is to create or share resources to help people explore these topics in further depth. Here are a few resources you might find meaningful during this sermon series.

Jesus in all of Matthew - Walk through Matthew with Spoken Gospel to see Jesus in every corner of the book. We start with a short film introducing you to the book and its main themes. Then quick devotional videos will explain what's happening in each section and how it leads us to Jesus.

Be the light: A City on a Hill

Welcome to 2025! This year we are so pleased to begin our new year long theme. Each year our theme sets us in a direction that shapes our sermons, special events, small groups, and more. It’s an overarching way for us to share a common story and grow in Jesus together.

This year our theme is “Be the Light.” We stand together this year to become a community that lives in the light of Jesus, this year.

Week 2

We cannot see in the dark. We were not made for it. We need the light. We need a lamp. We need God’s presence to illuminate what we see. We cannot run to the dark, we’ll stub our toe or worse. In the dark we can’t see what we’re doing. But the revealing light can be blinding, but what it reveals in us is God’s work in us.

Week 3

So look around. The Kingdom of God is here. You are the city of God, a bright light shining on a hill. Our community, your lives, become part of God’s city. Are you without a home? Poor? humble? Meek? in Mourning? You are welcome to become a citizen of Jesus’s city. He is Lord here, He is your provider and protector here. He defends you, not yourself. He lights your lamp and invites you to place it up and high for all to see. You are the light of the world.
